My doctor had scheduled me for an induction on Saturday. When I called the hospital that morning to see when they wanted us to come in, they said they had quite a few people go into labor so they would call us when a room became available. It was snowing really hard that day, apparently that sends people into labor. Uber lame. I was going crazy, what do you do when you are waiting for someone to call to tell you to come have your baby. We cleaned, again, and read lots of books with Cooper, but I was excited when they did call at 12:30 to see if we could be up there in an hour.
We took Cooper up to Rob & Marci's and were on our way. We got there about quarter to 2. At 3 Machel (my midwife, isn't she fabulous, I've never seen her without a stitch of makeup on, I'm not sure how she does her job, all I know is she's amazing and I heart her) broke my water. After she broke my water my contractions were going crazy, one right after another without a break in between. Machel was surprised and thought that had I not been started I would have gone into labor by myself within 24 hours....she must have forgot my families history on going into labor. :-) They put me on pitocin to hopefully get the contractions in more of a rhythmic pattern.
Lesson I learned this time around, contractions are definitely more intense after your water has been broken. With Cooper, they started me on pitocin, then 8 hours later broke my water, and then I got my epidural. This time around, yeah I only made it 3 hours before I wanted that blessed drug. It took me from 3-8 to dilate from a 2-5. My heart rate and the babies heart rate kept dropping really low, so they put me on oxygen and had me roll from side to side every 15 min or so. Around 8:45 the nurse came in to help me roll, and then started to monitor our heart rates...I told her, I think that worked this time cause I just felt him move 2 big moves....she said alright, Machel wanted me to check you...hopefully you'll be to a 7 by now...."Oh, yeah, your baby is right there and ready to come out." Love that. It was the same story with Cooper, took me a long time to dilate to a 5, then bam, "ma'am please don't sneeze or cough until your doctor gets here."
Machel got there and got everything ready and we started to push around 9. About 4 minutes later, at 9:05 pm our little Camden Joseph was born. Brandon couldn't believe how fast it was. He weighed 6 pounds 1 oz and was 18 inches long. We like the small babies in our little family. He came out looking exactly like Cooper did when he was born, except Camden has darker hair and more of it. Each day, though, he is starting to look more and more like his own little person.
Cooper couldn't come to the hospital and was having a really hard time understanding what was going on. So on Monday when it came time to go home, Marci dropped him off at the hospital so he could come home from the hospital with all of us. We were hoping that would help him understand a little better, so there wasn't just a baby at his house when he came home. He was so excited, he was shaking, and kept asking to see him, it was so cute, and honestly got me a little choked up.
Cooper is doing pretty well, each day he is adjusting a little more and more. He's been a little whiney and wanting more of our attention, but he loves his little brother and is always willing to help out, sometimes a little too much. :-) I'm so grateful for Brandon. He took this week off of work and I really have no idea what I would have done without him. I'm so nervous for him to go back. Cooper has been Brandons little shadow and doesn't let him out of his sight.
Camden is such a good baby....he eats, sleeps, and poops. I'm trying to remember what I did all the time when we just had one newborn. It seems that if we didn't have Cooper, I would have a lot of time on my hands.. However, Cooper ate every 2 hours when he was first born and I'm pretty sure Camden would sleep the day away if I didn't wake him up to eat after 3 1/2 - 4.
We took him to our pediatrician yesterday and the little guy is doing great. His bilirubin levels are no where near the danger zone of jaundice, and he's back up to his birth weight. I love my boys and feel incredibly blessed to have such sweet spirits and gifts in my home. It's so amazing to me that Brandon and I created these boys and that we are sealed to them and each other for eternity.
